The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) of UAE has decided to exempt individuals who were unable to travel from overstay fines for delayed departures due to exceptional circumstances currently affecting the region, which led to the closure of airspace and the temporary suspension of a number of flights.

The Federal Authority explained that the decision to waive overstay fines applies to all cases in which the person was unable to leave the country, including visitors holding visit visas, tourist visas, or exit permits, as well as residents who had cancelled their residency permits in preparation for departure.

The exemption applies to overstay fines incurred on or after 28th February 2026, ensuring that their legal status can be addressed without imposing any financial burden arising from these exceptional circumstances beyond their control.

The Authority said the decision was taken in response to circumstances beyond travelers’ control that prevented them from leaving the country on their scheduled dates due to flight suspensions or rescheduling. As a result, overstay fines incurred during this period have been waived, reflecting the UAE’s humanitarian approach to emergencies and its consideration of the exceptional conditions faced by travelers and visitors.

It added that specialized teams at airports and Customer Happiness Centers across the country continue to operate under emergency and business continuity plans, in coordination with relevant authorities. These teams are facilitating procedures, assisting passengers affected by delayed or rescheduled flights, and helping resolve issues related to overstay fines.

ICP emphasized that the UAE remains committed to supporting travelers and visitors during exceptional circumstances, guided by its values of tolerance and solidarity. The waiver of overstay fines highlights the country’s approach to ensuring that affected individuals can regularize their status without financial burden.

Travelers have been urged to follow official channels for updates and any regulatory measures related to the situation. The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high levels of readiness and ensuring uninterrupted services and support for travelers and visitors.
