Bahrain’s Urban Planning and Development Authority (UPDA) has unveiled the “Planning Approval Endorsement” service on its “Planning” digital platform.

Launched  in coordination with the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA), the service comes as part of its commitment to enhancing urban planning services in the Kingdom of Bahrain. With the launch of ‘Planning Approval Endorsement’ service, the number of services it offers reaches 15.

The new service allows engineering offices and government entities to apply for official endorsements from Urban Planning Affairs, assessing land suitability for development in line with approved plans. This includes land use, building regulations, and parking requirements. It is required for cases with undefined regulatory classifications, such as areas designated for special projects.

Ahmed Abdulaziz Al Khayyat, Chief Executive of the UPDA, stated that the aim of this service is to simplify procedures and reduce the time needed to obtain building permits, supporting project quality and enhancing the business environment.

Al Khayyat also highlighted that a total of 182 requests for planning approvals were received in 2024, highlighting market demand.

Mohamed Ali Al Qaed, Chief Executive of the iGA, emphasized the role of digital platforms and geographic information systems in enhancing the efficiency of real estate services and supporting national development efforts.

The digital platform ‘Planning’ enables licensed engineering offices to submit applications, track statuses, receive guidance, and pay service fees. Additionally, it provides users with planning requirements, legislation, and an interactive map detailing zoning conditions for each plot across Bahrain.
