Dubai has hosted the third International Conference of the Emirates Rare Diseases Society, aimed at raising awareness and exploring opportunities for cooperation to provide better care for individuals with rare diseases.
The conference, held in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Prevention, the Dubai Health Authority and a number of universities and concerned institutions inside and outside the country, is inaugurated by Dr. Abdullah Al Khayyat, CEO of Al Jalila Hospital in Dubai.
Mona Khalifa Hamad, Member of the Federal National Council, Dr. Younis Kazim, Advisor at Dubai Health, and Dr. Eman Taryam Al Shamsi, Consultant and Acting Head of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Department at Al Jalila Hospital in Dubai, Chairman of the Conference, Member of the Medical Committee of the Emirates Rare Diseases Society, were also present.
The conference gathered over 300 doctors and a number of children with rare diseases and their families. In the opening speech, Dr. Al Khayyat stated that rare diseases are often complex, chronic and lead to severe disability and early death, posing a challenge for doctors and researchers. It also prevents researchers in detecting causes and treatment.
Dr. Iman Taryam Al Shamsi, President of the conference, highlighted that the last day of conference will include a program that focuses on the injured and their families, gathering them with specialists to discuss the daily challenges and difficulties they face, and provide the best appropriate solutions.
Nafisa Tawfiq, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Rare Diseases Society and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Conference, stated that the UAE, under the directives of its wise leadership, has been supporting the rare diseases’ community by giving more attention.
Furthermore, the conference accompanied an exhibition with 13 local and international companies, displaying their latest products of modern medicines.
