The Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), an affiliate of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has held discussions with Lumo, an Emirati company specializing in smart mobility and autonomous transport solutions, to implement the Middle East and North Africa’s first autonomous public transport bus trial in Abu Dhabi.

The planned trial, supported by the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC), builds on ongoing cooperation between the two entities to develop smart mobility solutions and autonomous driving systems in Abu Dhabi, following engagement initiated during GITEX Global 2025.

During the meeting, both parties reviewed international best practices and global experiences in autonomous public transport and explored opportunities to launch pilot projects and technical studies related to advanced mobility technologies.

The initiative forms part of Abu Dhabi Mobility’s efforts to accelerate the adoption of smart mobility technologies and autonomous systems in line with the Abu Dhabi Smart and Autonomous Mobility Strategy, which aims for smart and autonomous mobility modes to account for 25 per cent of all trips across the emirate by 2040.

The collaboration is expected to support the development of smarter, more efficient and sustainable transport solutions while enhancing Abu Dhabi’s readiness to adopt next-generation mobility technologies.
