The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), an affiliate of the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport, has introduced two new gates to the Darb Toll Gate System in Abu Dhabi, aiming to enhance traffic flow management and improve overall road efficiency across key areas of the city.
This initiative aims to enhance traffic flow on main roads, improve the efficiency of road network usage, and reduce congestion, particularly during peak hours. The two toll gates will be implemented and operated in collaboration with Q-Mobility.
The two toll gates are located on Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Street in Ghantoot and on Wahat Al Karama Street at the entrance and exit of Sheikh Zayed Street. The gates will commence operations on 4 May 2026 and will operate 24/7.
The ITC stated that a toll fee of $1.09 (AED 4) will be charged per crossing, while maintaining the exemption of one vehicle for specific categories, including senior citizens, People of Determination, low-income citizens, and retired citizens, in line with the emirate’s approved toll system.
Selection of toll gates
The ITC also confirmed that the selection of the two gate locations was based on specialized traffic studies, which considered factors such as traffic density, mobility patterns, and the availability of alternative routes in the surrounding areas, as outlined:
Al Qurm Toll Gate: Located on Wahat Al Karama Street at the entrance and exit of Sheikh Zayed Street. The location allows drivers to use Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Street or Arabian Gulf Street as alternative routes.
Ghantoot Toll Gate: Located on Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Street in Ghantoot. Road users may opt for Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Street as an alternative route.
The Integrated Transport Centre stated that the addition of the two new gates is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the emirate’s road network, keeping pace with urban growth and rising traffic volumes.
The center will continue to assess the impact of these gates through regular reviews, analyzing usage patterns and performance to ensure the system operates effectively in line with approved traffic requirements.
