The Bahrain Space Agency has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Italian Space Agency during the official visit of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to the Italian Republic.
The agreement aims to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in peaceful space exploration, scientific research, and capacity building, as well as the development and implementation of joint projects and initiatives, reflecting the depth and strength of the longstanding strategic relations between the two countries.
Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Aseeri, Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Space Agency, underscored that the MoU builds on nearly eight years of close cooperation between the two agencies, describing it as an important step toward enhancing Bahrain’s presence in the global space industry.
The CEO highlighted the importance of space diplomacy in strengthening international cooperation, fostering mutual understanding between nations, creating new opportunities for economic growth and technological advancement, and enabling the transfer and localisation of advanced knowledge and technologies, ultimately benefiting the economies of both countries.
The signing of this MoU builds on ongoing cooperation since 2018, which has already delivered notable achievements, including Bahrain’s successful hosting of the sixth edition of the International Space Forum at the Ministerial Level (Gulf Chapter) in July 2024, under the theme ‘Space as a Game-Changer in Diplomacy and Economic Development in the Region’.
As the first event of its kind in the Gulf, it marked a significant milestone in Bahrain’s regional and international space cooperation and stood as a tangible outcome of its partnership with the Italian Space Agency.
