Dubai parks to open Legoland Hotel in December

The operator of Dubai Parks and Resorts, DXB Entertainments has announced that its Legoland hotel is projecting to open in December this year.

The Dubai-based company, which announced its third-quarter results, reported a 97 percent year-on-year drop in revenues to $544k (Dh2 million), while compared to the $21 million (Dh78 million) in Q3 2019. However, during the period, it posted a 21 percent improvement in its EBITDA loss to hit $14 million (Dh54 million).

The theme park complex, which was closed due to the pandemic from March until September this year, announced that it had seen 6,02,000 visitors in the first nine months, 67 percent fall from the same time last year. So far, Dubai Parks has only reopened Motiongate, it’s Hollywood themed park.

The company said the introduction of an ‘efficiency program’ helped the destination to reduce operating costs by 54 percent year-on-year between January and September to reach $55 million (Dh205 million).

In the meantime, DXB Entertainments has announced that its enhancement plan is underway with new rides scheduled to open soon in the destination.

It also reported that construction is “progressing well” on its 250-key Legoland hotel and is on schedule to open in December 2020. The Legoland hotel is a joint venture with the Merlin Entertainment Company of the UK and the announcement about the setting up of the hotel was first revealed in early 2017.

The hotel is being constructed on 300,000 square feet of land adjacent to the theme park of Legoland Dubai and will feature Lego models in every room, a disco elevator, castle play area and themed rooms.

Dubai Parks currently operates in the Lapita hotel, which had an average occupancy of 37 percent in the first nine months of this year.

During the closure of operations from March to September 2020, we have focused on the enhancement plan which includes the addition of 10 new rides in Bollywood Parks Dubai and two new rides in Motiongate Dubai”

Mr. Almulla stated that Motiongate will become the largest theme park in the country by the number of rollercoasters with the upcoming thrilling new rides.

“The expansion to Lionsgate Zone will launch in early 2021 and feature the world’s first theme park ride inspired by the popular John Wick franchise and Now You See Me movie-inspired roller coaster. Our destination will have a total of three world record thrill rides by early 2021,” he concluded.
