Dubai RTA to offer world-class mass transit system for Expo 2020 guests

His Excellency Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed that the infrastructure of roads and mass transit networks is ready to provide a unique, smooth, and fast mobility service to Expo 2020 visitors from the UAE. 

The huge support and patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and the active follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of the Executive Council has helped RTA to complete 15 projects to serve Expo 2020, costing more than $4.1 billion.

The portfolio of projects completed is highlighted by Route 2020 of Dubai Metro which runs 15 km and connects 7 stations, procuring 50 trains with spacious and stylish interiors, constructing roads spanning 138 lane-kilometers with 9 flyovers, deploying 200 public buses featuring top class specifications.

Further, the projects also include designating 18 stations for buses at hotspots across Dubai and other key cities of the UAE, deploying 15k taxis, limousines, managing 30k parking slots at the Expo site, and using smart technologies, apps, and artificial intelligence to make it easier for Expo visitors to travel by metro, buses, and taxis.

RTA will manage about 30000 parking slots at the site of Expo distributed at Opportunity, Mobility, Sustainability, World zones and Nissan Parking.

The Enterprise Command and Control Centre, one of the world’s largest and most advanced control centers, was built as part of RTA’s preparations for this mega global exhibition. It has also built the Intelligent Traffic Centre, which manages traffic using cutting-edge smart technologies.

Since the announcement that Dubai has won the privilege to host Expo 2020, RTA has focused on implementing the directives of Dubai’s leadership, to construct a unique infrastructure of roads and mass transit system to integrate mobility service to visitors of Expo 2020 from the UAE and abroad.
