The Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf has signed a comprehensive cooperation program with Arabian Gulf University (AGU) toward advanced statistical research, capacity building, and knowledge exchange across the Gulf region.

The agreement establishes a structured framework for collaboration in key areas, including scientific research, development of statistical capabilities, and the sharing of technical expertise.

The partnership reflects a growing emphasis within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on leveraging data as a cornerstone for informed policymaking and sustainable development.

Expanding scope of academic and technical cooperation

Under the program, both institutions will work jointly on the exchange of research studies and publications, while also launching specialized training initiatives aimed at enhancing statistical competencies across the region.

The collaboration further includes the organization of joint scientific conferences and workshops, designed to foster dialogue among researchers, policymakers, and data professionals.

In addition, the agreement provides for reciprocal technical and advisory visits, enabling experts from both sides to share practical insights and strengthen institutional linkages.

These initiatives are expected to contribute to deeper integration between academic research and applied statistical work in GCC countries.

To ensure effective execution, the two parties have agreed to establish a joint committee tasked with overseeing the implementation of the cooperation program.

The committee will be responsible for developing detailed action plans, monitoring progress, and facilitating coordination on proposed initiatives.

This governance mechanism is intended to streamline collaboration efforts and ensure that the partnership delivers measurable outcomes aligned with regional priorities.

The cooperation aligns closely with the strategic plan for joint Gulf statistical work (2026–2030), which aims to build a smart, reliable, and integrated statistical system across GCC member states.

The plan emphasizes strengthening academic partnerships, advancing the use of data science, and developing highly skilled statistical professionals capable of supporting evidence-based decision-making.

By fostering collaboration between a leading regional statistical body and an academic institution, the initiative supports the broader goal of creating a cohesive Gulf statistical knowledge ecosystem.

This latest partnership underscores the Statistical Center’s commitment to expanding its network of academic and research collaborations. The initiative is expected to enhance the quality, accessibility, and impact of data across the GCC.
