Huawei Technologies, a Chinese multinational technology corporation, has planned to invest $632.52 million to build a new headquarters and a Research and Development (R&D) center for its digital power unit.

According to reports, Huawei Digital Power signed an agreement with the local government of the southern metropolis of Shenzhen, where its parent company is headquartered, for the project. The signing was part of a larger event held by Shenzhen to mark the launch of new construction projects in the city.

Huawei has been striving to diversify its portfolio outside its core telecommunications and smartphone businesses, which have been impacted hard by US export restrictions in recent years. Last June, Huawei Digital Power was registered under the name of Mr. Ken Hu, the parent company’s current rotating chairman.

It was created to face the challenges of the era of big data, traffic, and energy consumption, providing solutions such as smart data centers and helping telecom and tower operators achieve green efficiency, according to the company.

In January 2022, Huawei Digital Power and China Resources Power Holdings, which operates coal-fired power plants across China, signed a cooperation agreement to develop clean energy projects such as big data platforms for solar panels, energy storage systems, and smart power plants.

According to the company, Huawei is confident that it will achieve peak carbon emissions within five years. Huawei will play an active role in building an energy-efficient, eco-friendly and low-carbon society, not only through reducing carbon dioxide emissions in its products and operations, but also by promoting green integrated Information Communication Technology (ICT) solutions across its supply chain to help other industries preserve energy and cut emissions.
