Kuwait’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has confirmed that the country’s airspace has been reopened after a temporary precautionary closure imposed in response to Iranian missile and drone attacks that raised regional security concerns.

DGCA said in its official statement that Kuwaiti airspace was closed for two hours beginning at 4:15 AM local time as a preventive measure following missile and drone attacks originating from Iran. The move was aimed at safeguarding civil aviation operations amid heightened tensions and potential security risks in the region.

The DGCA further noted that the temporary suspension of air traffic was implemented in coordination with relevant authorities to ensure the safety and security of passengers, flight crews, and airport operations during the period of uncertainty.

During the closure, a total of 11 flights operated by Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways were diverted to neighboring airports as a precaution. The authority said the diversions were carried out to maintain operational safety and ensure compliance with the highest international aviation security and safety standards.

According to the statement, aviation officials continuously monitored developments and coordinated with concerned agencies throughout the closure period. Following assessments that confirmed conditions had stabilized and that any immediate threat had passed, Kuwaiti authorities authorized the resumption of normal air traffic operations.

The DGCA pointed out that arriving and departing flights resumed at 6:15 AM, marking the reopening of Kuwait’s airspace after the two-hour suspension. The authority further confirmed that all flights diverted to airports in Dammam and Riyadh in neighboring Saudi Arabia safely returned to Kuwait International Airport after air traffic operations resumed and the country’s airspace was officially reopened.

The temporary closure underscores the impact of regional security developments on Gulf aviation operations, with authorities emphasizing that passenger safety and the protection of civil aviation remain their highest priorities during periods of heightened geopolitical tension.
