The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has announced the launch of a new maritime shipping service, REDEX, operated by CMA CGM, at the Jeddah Islamic Port.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening maritime connectivity and enhancing the regional and global competitiveness of Saudi ports in line with the Kingdom’s long-term economic transformation agenda under Saudi Vision 2030.
The newly introduced REDEX service links Jeddah Islamic Port with four strategic regional and international ports, Malta Freeport, Port Said, Alexandria, and Aqaba, with a total operational capacity of 2,594 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
The service is expected to facilitate faster and more efficient cargo movement across key Mediterranean and Red Sea trade corridors.
The move forms part of Mawani’s broader strategy to enhance maritime connectivity, strengthen supply chains, and support the smooth flow of global trade and national exports.
By expanding partnerships with major international shipping lines, the authority aims to further integrate Saudi Arabia into global logistics networks and reinforce its role as a key trade gateway connecting Asia, Europe, and Africa.
The initiative also supports the Kingdom’s National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which seeks to transform Saudi Arabia into a leading global logistics hub linking three continents while boosting non-oil exports and economic diversification.
Located on the Red Sea coast, Jeddah Islamic Port remains the Kingdom’s principal maritime gateway and one of the busiest ports in the region.
The port features 62 multi-purpose berths, advanced cargo-handling equipment, and a logistics zone dedicated to bonded storage and re-export operations.
It also includes specialized terminals, such as two container terminals and marine service berths, with a total handling capacity of approximately 130 million tonnes annually.
The initiative is also expected to support exporters and importers by providing more efficient shipping routes, reducing transit times, and improving supply chain resilience across the region.
