The Sultanate of Oman and the European Union (EU) have signed an agreement for the establishment of a diplomatic mission of the European Union in Oman.
This mission, together with the Sultanate of Oman’s accredited mission to the European Union in Brussels, provides an institutional framework for advancing the shared interests of both sides, thereby contributing to their mutual prosperity and well-being.
This significant development reflects the deepening partnership between the European Union and the Sultanate of Oman and highlights their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation and exploring new opportunities across a broad range of sectors. These include technology, energy, logistics, banking, critical minerals, infrastructure, training and capacity-building, food and water security, energy security, and maritime security.
Both sides share a comprehensive strategic vision in support of multilateralism, with each playing an active role in promoting peace, security, and prosperity. In light of the current regional challenges and the need to reinforce sustainable stability, this mission will provide the European Union with a permanent presence in the Sultanate of Oman.
In parallel with Oman’s mission in Brussels, this will enhance both sides’ capacity to contribute more effectively to the development and implementation of solutions that support regional and international peace and stability.
The agreement was signed by HE Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, and Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission.
On this occasion, Sayyid Badr expressed his hope that the European Union mission in Muscat will bring significant benefits to governments, business sectors, and citizens of both the Sultanate of Oman and the European Union, noting that the opening of this mission will help unlock the full potential of the partnership and strengthen cooperation in ways that serve the mutual interests of both sides.
For her part, Kaja Kallas welcomed the signing of the agreement and underscored its significance, describing it as a milestone in the evolving relationship between the Sultanate of Oman and the European Union.
During the ceremony, both sides reviewed the progress of their cooperation, reaffirmed their commitment to constructive engagement, and reiterated their determination to continue political dialogue and further strengthen bilateral cooperation in a manner that serves common interests and delivers mutual benefit.
