Saudi Arabia has signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing the localization and production of veterinary vaccines in the Kingdom.
The agreement was signed by the National Livestock and Fisheries Development Program, AniVax, and Boehringer Ingelheim, a global leader in veterinary solutions and disease prevention.
The MoU intends to strengthen cooperation and leverage international expertise to support the development of the Saudi Arabia’s veterinary vaccine industry in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
The agreement aims to enhance opportunities for local manufacturing of veterinary vaccines and promote the exchange of expertise and knowledge in combating animal diseases.
Areas of cooperation include establishing a national antigen bank covering local and regional strains, as well as supporting research and development through advanced research activities conducted in cooperation with the ministry and local partners.
According to the statement, the partnership will also explore including pre-pandemic vaccines and the antigen bank within the Saudi Arabia’s strategic reserves, assess market demand for vaccines, and study the development and localization of other vaccines identified as national priorities.
Furthermore, additional areas of cooperation include technical and training programs for Saudi professionals to benefit from global expertise in disease prevention and control. The partnership will also involve conducting field trials, exchanging epidemiological data, developing awareness campaigns, and improving access to high-quality diagnostic tools.
The signing ceremony took place at the Saudi Arabia Ministry’s headquarters in Riyadh, highlighting the global company’s involvement in initiatives aimed at localizing and advancing veterinary vaccine production in the Kingdom. The event was attended by officials from the Ministry as well as representatives from the sector.
