Dr. Rumaih Al-Rumaih, Vice Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Acting President of the Transport General Authority, held a series of meetings with key maritime sector leaders during an official ceremony at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) headquarters in London.
Dr. Al-Rumaih visit coincided with a ceremony honoring the Saudi Ambassador to the United Kingdom and President of the 33rd session of the IMO General Assembly Prince Khalid bin Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, who received an honorary doctorate from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport.
The award recognized his outstanding contributions to advancing international cooperation with the IMO and strengthening the role of Arab countries in the global maritime transport sector.
According to the statement, on the sidelines of the event, Al-Rumaih met with Prince Khalid to review the Kingdom’s initiatives and efforts in maritime development. He also discussed avenues for strengthening maritime cooperation with several international officials.
Al-Rumaih met with the Minister of Transportation, Communication, and Information Technology of the Marshall Islands Hilton Kendall to discuss joint maritime initiatives supported by the Kingdom. He also held talks with IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez on enhancing cooperation to protect the marine environment, improve safety, and facilitate global maritime navigation.
During a meeting with the Minister of Infrastructure Development of the Solomon Islands Manasseh Maelanga, Al-Rumaih reviewed opportunities for cooperation on the global vessel tracking system, an initiative supported by the Kingdom.
In a separate meeting with the Director General of Aviation, Maritime, and Security at the UK Department for Transport Rannia Leontaridi, they explored ways to bolster international cooperation, particularly in support of developing and island nations.
Al-Rumaih also met with members of the European Parliament, emphasizing the importance of global partnerships in promoting marine environmental sustainability and improving seafarer training and education in developing countries.
In a final meeting with International Mobile Satellite Organization Director-General Laurent Parenté, Al-Rumaih reviewed the Long-Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) system, which aims to improve global ship identification and tracking, strengthen maritime safety, and protect the marine environment.
