Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Municipalities and Housing Majed Al-Hogail has launched the ‘Sandbox’ initiative as part of the ministry’s broader efforts to accelerate the adoption of innovative solutions and enhance the efficiency of municipal and housing services across the Kingdom.

The Sandbox initiative is designed to enable public and private entities to test their solutions in a safe, real-world environment supported by flexible regulatory and legislative frameworks, helping to bridge the gap between innovation and practical implementation.

It aims to address key challenges associated with scaling new technologies and services by providing a structured and controlled environment for testing products and operational models. This approach is expected to accelerate validation processes, improve decision-making efficiency, and significantly reduce both operational and financial risks for participating entities.

The Sandbox also offers a practical pathway for innovators to co-develop and refine their solutions from early stages through continuous evaluation and performance monitoring. This iterative process enhances readiness for full-scale implementation and ensures alignment with the evolving needs of municipal and housing sectors.

Built on an integrated operating model, the Sandbox initiative brings together relevant entities from multiple disciplines to unify efforts, exchange expertise, and foster collaboration. By leveraging data-driven insights and evidence-based approaches, the Sandbox seeks to enhance service efficiency while accelerating the development and deployment of innovative solutions.

The Sandbox initiative forms part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the national innovation ecosystem and support the development of more efficient, resilient, and sustainable urban infrastructure, ultimately contributing to an improved quality of life.

Applications to participate in the initiative will be accepted through a dedicated online platform, where entities can submit their innovative proposals and join the testing and development phases via the official link.
