Saudi Total Petroleum Products (STPP), a joint venture between TotalEnergies and Zahid Group, and a leading lubricants manufacturing and distribution company operating in the Saudi market, has started the construction of a 250 kWp solar rooftop project at its lubricants blending plant located at King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC).

The photovoltaic system will produce over 390 MWh of renewable energy annually, covering approximately half of the plant’s energy needs. The system will be installed by SAFEER, a Jeddah-based joint venture between TotalEnergies and Altaaqa Alternative Solutions with a mission to bring affordable and reliable solar energy solutions to commercial and industrial customers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The move to solarize STPP’s lubricants blending plant highlights TotalEnergies and Zahid Group’s shared commitment to the Saudi Green Initiative and Vision 2030. The renewable energy produced by the rooftop system is expected to avoid 280 tons of CO2 emissions per year. STPP hopes that this cost-effective and reliable on-site solar solution for renewable electricity production will serve as an example of solar technology’s emerging use within the Kingdom.

“Solarizing our lubricants blending plant in KAEC is part of STPP’s sustainability roadmap. In Saudi Arabia, our ambition is to grow in the renewables area, and this is another step in that direction. We’ll be providing the market with cutting-edge lubricants produced using renewable resources in our operations.”

TotalEnergies Refining & Chemical Saudi Arabia Managing Director and Country Chairman of KSA & Bahrain, Mr. Ahmed Tarzi said that “TotalEnergies is transforming to become a multi-energy company that provides low carbon energy and mobility solutions. Our goal is to be a major player in the energy transition. In line with our 2050 carbon neutrality ambition and our growth strategy in renewable energies, our path to net zero involves reducing the carbon footprint of our operations.”

Located 150km north of the city of Jeddah in King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), STPP’s state-of-the-art automated blending plant is one of the most modern lubricants production facilities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with an annual capacity of 45,000 metric tons on a single working shift. Established in 2013, the STPP blending plant produces an extensive range of lubricants under the TotalEnergies brand for the automotive, manufacturing, and marine industries. The plant meets all HSEQ certifications including but not limited to ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001, and SASO.
