SOHAR Port and Freezone, in collaboration with the Omani Ministry of Energy and Minerals, has launched the Energy Efficiency Guideline for Industrial Buildings at SOHAR Port and Freezone under the patronage of Mohsin Hamad Al Hadrami, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals.

The Energy Efficiency Guideline provides a practical framework to support industrial investors in improving energy use efficiency, reducing operational costs, and enhancing performance efficiency within the industrial and logistics ecosystem of SOHAR Port and Freezone.

Serving as a technical reference, the Energy Efficiency Guideline provides a clear and structured approach that enables investors and operators to evaluate performance, pinpoint sources of inefficiency, and implement targeted, facility-specific improvements.

It also outlines key performance indicators (KPIs) for building efficiency, including cooling degree metrics, energy consumption rates, water heating intensity, and the performance of lighting and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems, supporting more informed operational and investment decisions.

Energy Efficiency Guideline aligns with global standards

The Energy Efficiency Guideline draws on internationally recognized standards such as ASHRAE 90.1 (Energy Efficiency in Buildings), ASHRAE 105 (Standard Method of Determining and Reporting Building Energy Performance), the IPMVP (International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol), and ISO 6946 (Thermal resistance and transmittance calculation methods for building components).

In addition, the Energy Efficiency Guideline aligns with the Oman Building Code and the occupational safety and health regulatory framework established under Ministerial Decision No. 286/2008. It also contributes to the goals of Oman Vision 2040, particularly in advancing industrial productivity, economic diversification, and infrastructure efficiency.

The introduction of this Energy Efficiency Guideline by SOHAR Port and Freezone underscores its continued commitment to promoting sustainable industrial development, strengthening sector competitiveness, and attracting investment in line with the demands of low-carbon markets.
