The Sustainability Hackathon has concluded at the Exhibition World Bahrain as part of the World Conference on Water, Energy and Climate Change, in the presence of Dr. Mohamed bin Mubarak Bin Daina, Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs.
The event brought together more than 100 students from leading universities and academic institutions across the GCC, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among future innovators. The Sustainability Hackathon was designed to empower youth in developing practical, innovative, and sustainable solutions to pressing regional environmental challenges.
The outcomes of Sustainability Hackathon included cutting-edge prototypes and emerging technologies to enhance water efficiency, forward-looking ideas for renewable energy aligned with GCC priorities, strategies aimed at strengthening climate resilience, as well as scalable entrepreneurial initiatives that have the potential to create lasting impact and drive sustainable economic growth across the region.
Her Highness Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairperson of INJAZ Bahrain, stated that the ideas and solutions reflected youth awareness of sustainability and their commitment to future development, noting the organization’s dedication to empowering youth and highlighting their creativity.
Minister Dr. Bin Daina emphasized Bahrain’s commitment to fostering environmental innovation and directing youth potential toward sustainable development in water, energy and climate. He underscored that investing in young minds is essential to environmental progress and the transition to a low carbon economy.
Dr. Bin Daina commended the quality of the projects, the awareness demonstrated, and the spirit of innovation and teamwork, describing initiatives like Sustainability Hackathon as platforms to discover talent and prepare a generation capable of leading sustainability efforts.
The minister congratulated the winning teams at the Sustainability Hackathon: King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia placed first, Kuwait University in the State of Kuwait came second, and the University of Technology in the Kingdom of Bahrain won third. He commended the winning solutions for their innovation and future oriented vision.
