Saudi Arabia’s Transport General Authority (TGA) has sponsored the launch of the Kingdom’s first hydrogen-powered heavy-duty truck equipped with autonomous driving technologies, marking a significant step toward sustainable and smart transport solutions.

The initiative is being implemented with support from the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services through a partnership involving Ismail Abudawood, Procter & Gamble Limited, and Hyperview.

The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to advance modern technologies that support sustainable transport.

The launch comes as part of efforts to promote innovative solutions in the transport sector and accelerate the adoption of advanced technologies that advance transport and logistics systems while enhancing operational efficiency.

Powered by clean hydrogen energy, the truck operates with zero carbon emissions and can be refueled within minutes. It also offers a driving range of up to 1,500 kilometers, making it well suited for heavy-duty freight operations and long-haul transportation.

According to the statement, the truck is equipped with multiple levels of autonomous driving capabilities, in addition to digital systems that enable continuous updates and a smart design powered by software and artificial intelligence. These features support the development of modern transport solutions and enhance operational efficiency.

The initiative contributes to advancing sustainable transport, reducing carbon emissions, enhancing the efficiency of supply chains and logistics services, and improving safety through advanced autonomous driving technologies.

The project marks a step toward a more efficient and sustainable future for heavy transport by leveraging clean hydrogen technologies and innovation in developing modern transport solutions, as per the statement.
