The Saudi Transport General Authority (TGA) has issued a license to Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) to operate container trains at additional stations across the Kingdom’s railway network.
This move aims to strengthen logistics connectivity between Saudi ports and cargo terminals, enhancing the flexibility of goods transport across the Kingdom and into neighboring countries.
The initiative is part of TGA’s efforts to support the logistics sector and enhance the railway network’s readiness to respond to regional developments, while emphasizing adherence to the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
According to the statement, the container trains currently transport more than 2,500 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) per day. The license enables increased volumes, thereby helping to ensure supply-chain stability and supporting local and Gulf markets.
Also, the Transport General Authority has announced the temporary suspension of the requirement for the validity of certificates and documents needed for the issuance or renewal of navigation licenses and work permits for marine units.
This suspension will last for 30 days, with the possibility of an extension, if necessary, as long as it does not compromise the safety of lives or the protection of the marine environment.
The decision applies to Saudi and foreign vessels located within the Kingdom’s territorial waters in the Arabian Gulf, as per the statement.
Recently, TGA launched a comprehensive directory of licensed truck freight carriers through its ‘Logisti’ platform.
The initiative enables local and international companies to easily access approved transporters while enhancing the efficiency of cargo movement both domestically and across the region.
The directory will provide beneficiaries with detailed information on licensed carriers, including the destinations they serve within the Kingdom, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and other Arab states.
