The UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism has intensified monitoring of retail markets nationwide to ensure the stability of prices and the continued availability of essential consumer goods amid increased demand.
The Ministry said that specialized inspection teams are conducting daily monitoring visits to points of sale across the country.
The inspections are being carried out in coordination with economic development departments across all emirates as part of a unified national monitoring framework aimed at preventing unjustified price increases and ensuring fair commercial practices.
Officials said the enhanced oversight reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding consumer interests while maintaining stable and well-supplied markets during periods of heightened demand.
Coordination across Emirates
The ministry noted that authorities across the emirates are maintaining close coordination to continuously track market activity and ensure compliance with consumer protection regulations. Particular focus is being placed on the pricing policy governing essential consumer goods.
The policy covers nine key commodities—cooking oil, eggs, dairy products, rice, sugar, poultry, legumes, bread, and wheat—whose prices cannot be increased without prior approval from the ministry and the national committee responsible for overseeing the policy.
Officials said these measures are designed to prevent speculative pricing and ensure that essential goods remain accessible to consumers across the country.

Temporary price fluctuations
The ministry acknowledged that minor price increases have been observed in certain food commodities, including onions and tomatoes, over the past two days.
Authorities attributed these changes to short-term supply pressures linked to regional developments, noting that the increases are temporary and limited in scope.
Additional shipments of the affected products have already been supplied to local markets in sufficient quantities, the ministry said, adding that prices are expected to return to normal levels as supply stabilizes.
Officials emphasized that the UAE maintains a strategic reserve of essential goods capable of covering market demand for up to six months.
The reserves are distributed across different regions of the country through a carefully designed system that enhances supply chain efficiency and enables rapid response to market needs.
According to the ministry, shipping and supply operations through the country’s entry points are continuing as normal, and logistics networks are functioning efficiently, ensuring the uninterrupted availability of goods in local markets.
The UAE also benefits from an extensive global network of supplier markets, enabling authorities to secure alternative sources of imports quickly in the event of disruptions.
The ministry said monitoring campaigns will continue to intensify in the coming period to maintain market stability and protect consumers.
Officials also encouraged residents to play an active role in monitoring prices by reporting violations or irregularities through the ministry’s official communication channels. Consumers can submit complaints via the ministry’s website, call center, or digital communication platforms.
In addition, authorities urged consumers to follow responsible purchasing practices, buying goods according to their needs and avoiding excessive stockpiling to help maintain stable prices and ensure equitable availability of products for all.
