Bahraini transport officials have discussed the Saudi rail network project with the senior officials from GCC Railways Authority.

Mr. Hussein Ali Yaqoub, Assistant Undersecretary of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications in Bahrain, has met with a delegation from the GCC Railways Authority led by Mr. Nasser Hamad Al Qahtani and Mr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Samaani.

According to the statement, the meeting discussed the developments in the railway connection between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia via King Hamad Causeway, through which Bahrain will be linked to the GCC railway network.

The assistant undersecretary commended the authority’s role in the development of the railway sector in the GCC and in coordinating among the member states regarding the railway project.

The meeting also discussed details of engineering designs and meeting points between the two kingdoms, as per the statement.

Established in 2022, the GCC Railways Authority is mandated with shaping the general policy for the Gulf railway network and co-ordinate among the member states to follow up on the implementation and operation of the railway project.

The Gulf Railway (GCC Railway) is a proposed railway system to connect all six Gulf Cooperation Council member states in Eastern Arabia. Each of the six GCC member states is responsible for implementing the portion of the project that lies within its territory and will construct its own railway lines and branches, stations, and freight terminals. The cost will be shared by the six countries in proportion to the length of the rail network in each country.
