APM Terminals (APMT) Bahrain, the facilitator of maritime trade in the Kingdom, announced that it has invested in improving the reefer service capabilities at Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP).

A joint venture between APM Terminals International BV and YBA Kanoo Holdings of Bahrain, the company is the operator of the modern KBSP.

APMT Bahrain, with its multi-purpose and sophisticated port facilities, enables external trade and maritime services via container terminal activities, general cargo, RoRo, cruise, and related port services, contributing significantly to Bahrain’s economic growth.

“We’re continually investing in KBSP infrastructure to meet our customer demands in line with growing industry requirements with an extensive range of ancillary reefer services. Our one-stop-shop for reefer services at KBSP will help our customers in optimizing their operations by further extending the shelf-life of their perishable goods. Moreover, this will allow shipping lines avail cost efficiencies.”

Customers of APMT Bahrain now have the option of doing pre-trip inspection (PTI) for their reefer containers within the terminal’s facilities, in addition to 24/7 electricity infrastructure and monitoring for all refrigerated cargo at the port. The upgrade is in line with the company’s goal to improve its service offerings for reefer containers, which account for 14 percent of total imports and 3 percent of total exports.

According to the company, KBSP is now able to provide all types of reefer-related services, including electricity plugging and unplugging, PTI, cleaning, attending to damaged reefers, and minor repairs.

The provision of these services at KBSP will also allow customers to schedule the replacement of any malfunctioning reefers in a shorter timeframe, reducing the risk of perishable cargo damage. This is critical for the growth of Bahrain businesses since it ensures that reefers carrying perishable goods are supported by world-class service at KBSP.
