Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a contract, in partnership with the private sector, for the development of three integrated truck rest areas spanning more than 210,000 square meters with a combined capacity to accommodate 490 trucks and heavy vehicles.

The initiative enhances driver safety, operational efficiency, and logistics infrastructure across the emirate. Strategically located along key transport corridors and within major logistics hubs, the facilities are designed in line with international safety standards, particularly in the planning of entry and exit points.

“This project marks a strategic milestone in advancing Dubai’s transport ecosystem,” said Mattar Al Tayer. “Dubai records over 500,000 truck trips daily, with internal movement accounting for 83% of total traffic, while the number of registered trucks has reached 85,000—highlighting the growing need for specialized infrastructure. The development of integrated rest areas will help reduce random roadside parking, improve traffic flow, and support supply chain sustainability, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global hub for trade and logistics in line with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.”

The three facilities have been designed as comprehensive service hubs, offering accommodation, maintenance, training, and commercial services to improve the quality of life for truck drivers and enhance working conditions in the sector.

  • Jebel Ali 3 Facility: Spanning 100,000 sqm, with capacity for 250 trucks, it includes testing and training centers, maintenance facilities, retail outlets, warehouses, accommodation, recreational lounges, and EV charging and refueling stations.
  • Saih Shuaib Facility (near Dubai Industrial City): Covering 51,000 sqm with space for 120 trucks, it features accommodation, maintenance services, retail outlets, and logistics infrastructure.
  • Madinat Hind 2 Facility (Emirates Road): Spanning 59,000 sqm and accommodating 120 trucks, it offers testing and training centers, maintenance services, accommodation, and support amenities.

RTA emphasized that the strategic placement of these facilities near logistics zones and major road networks will strengthen transport integration and readiness for future freight growth.

The authority is also conducting comprehensive studies on truck movement, including field surveys and stakeholder consultations, to develop predictive planning models and assess the need for dedicated truck routes, dry ports, and freight consolidation centers.

The new project builds on RTA’s earlier collaboration with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), which delivered 14 truck rest areas across six key corridors, each accommodating 30 to 40 trucks.
