Etihad Airways has advanced its US expansion with two strategic enhancements to its North American network, significantly boosting capacity and connectivity across key markets.
The airline will upgrade its O’Hare International Airport service to double-daily flights, while operations to Charlotte Douglas International Airport will increase to daily frequencies from June 15.
The Charlotte route, launched on March 20, 2026, has shown strong early demand, prompting one of the fastest capacity expansions in Etihad’s network.
Strengthening transcontinental connectivity
The enhanced services improve links between North America and high-growth markets across India and the Asia-Pacific region. The move also strengthens access to the US domestic network through partner airlines, offering passengers greater flexibility and seamless onward connections.
Both routes will be operated by the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, configured with 32 Business and 271 Economy seats, ensuring a consistent long-haul product across the expanded services.
Chicago emerges as key gateway
Chicago continues to serve as one of Etihad’s most established entry points into the US market. The shift to double-daily operations is expected to deepen connectivity via Abu Dhabi, unlocking a wider range of one-stop travel options to key destinations.
These include multiple Indian cities such as Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai, alongside major Asia-Pacific hubs including Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and Manila.
Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways, said that, “Chicago continues to be a cornerstone of our US network. Moving to double-daily flights allows us to offer greater flexibility while strengthening connectivity through Abu Dhabi to key markets across India and Asia-Pacific.”
Charlotte sees rapid growth
Following its launch, the Charlotte route has quickly gained traction. The increase from four weekly flights to daily service, effective from mid-June through September 8, underscores strong demand from both point-to-point and connecting passengers.
The expanded schedule enhances connectivity between the southeastern United States and Etihad’s global network, supporting both passenger and cargo flows while enabling efficient one-stop travel via Abu Dhabi.
De highlighted that, “Scaling to daily service so soon after launch signals how quickly the route is gaining traction and its growing role within our US network.”
The latest enhancements form part of Etihad’s broader, phased strategy to expand its global network in line with demand.
