The Oman Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn) has announced plans to implement a major development project at Thumrait Industrial City in the Dhofar Governorate to strengthen infrastructure and create a more competitive environment for industrial investment.
The project, which forms part of Madayn’s broader strategy to upgrade industrial cities across the Sultanate of Oman, will cover an area of approximately 3.9 million square meters.
Hassan bin Marhoon Al Marhoon, Director General of Thumrait Industrial City, explained that the development is expected to involve a total investment of around $39 million (RO15 million), underscoring the government’s continued commitment to industrial expansion and economic diversification.
The development will include a comprehensive package of infrastructure works designed to enhance operational efficiency and attract a wide range of industrial and commercial activities.
Key components of the project include the construction of internal road networks, water and sewage systems, fire safety infrastructure, and rainwater drainage channels.
In addition, the project will incorporate solar-powered street lighting and perimeter fencing, contributing to the establishment of a fully integrated and sustainable industrial environment.
These upgrades are expected to significantly improve the city’s readiness to accommodate new investments and support long-term industrial growth.
As part of the development plan, Madayn will also construct a dedicated services building alongside a number of ready-built entrepreneurial complexes.
These facilities are intended to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by providing fully equipped workspaces, enabling entrepreneurs to launch and scale their industrial and commercial ventures more efficiently.
This approach aligns with national priorities to foster innovation, promote private sector participation, and strengthen the role of SMEs in the industrial ecosystem.

The Thumrait Industrial City project is a key component of Madayn’s ongoing efforts to enhance the attractiveness of industrial zones across Oman’s governorates. By upgrading infrastructure and expanding capacity, the initiative is expected to attract diversified investments and contribute to the country’s broader economic diversification agenda.
The project is also anticipated to generate both direct and indirect employment opportunities, supporting socio-economic development in the Dhofar region.
Thumrait Industrial City holds a strategic advantage due to its proximity to concession areas, quarry sites, and the Najd agricultural region.
This positioning makes it well-suited to attract a wide range of industries, including mining, gypsum production, cement manufacturing, building materials, food processing, and other manufacturing activities.
