Oman explores areas of cooperation with ESCWA Delegation

Oman Ministry of Economy has discussed areas of cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).

Said bin Mohammed al Saqri, Minister of Economy, met with Dr Rola Dashti, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, as part of the current visit program of the ESCWA delegation to the Sultanate of Oman.

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for West Asia is one of five regional commissions under the jurisdiction of the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

According to the statement, “They explored areas including providing technical support for the “Governorates Development Index” project through the participation of ESCWA experts within the national technical team to participate in various stages of preparing the index and the platform for assessing the quality of work accomplished at each stage of the project.”

In addition, the meeting discussed the project to evaluate the mid-term of the tenth five-year development plan (2021-2025) through the analysis and documentation of results and achieved impacts according to the objectives and expected results in the plan document.

The two sides also deliberated on the future direction in the remaining period of the tenth five-year plan, in addition to discussing providing a guiding framework for preparing the next five-year plan (2026-2030).

“The Ministry of Economy and ESCWA are also joining hands to develop various economic models, such as the computable general equilibrium model (CGE) and the national version of the trade policy simulation interface to assess global economic shocks,” as per the statement.
