Qatar’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development and Family and Qatar Tourism, has launched the second edition of the Purple Saturday initiative to promote accessible shopping experiences for persons with disabilities.
The annual initiative, held on the last Saturday of July, will run this year from July 25 to August 1. It forms part of national efforts to support inclusion and encourage greater participation of persons with disabilities in commercial and public spaces.
According to the ministry, the initiative will provide discounts, special offers, and enhanced services designed for persons with disabilities, while encouraging businesses to improve accessibility across retail and commercial establishments.
The program creates a shopping environment that enables persons with disabilities to access goods and services more easily and independently.
It also encourages businesses to adopt inclusive practices as part of their corporate social responsibility initiatives.
The ministry stated that participating shopping centers and retail outlets will introduce physical accessibility measures and customer services designed to improve the overall shopping experience. Exclusive offers and other benefits will also be available during the campaign period.
Business participation
The Qatar’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry invited commercial establishments across Qatar to participate in the second edition of the initiative by registering through its digital platform and completing the online application process.
The ministry noted that the initiative reflects cooperation between government entities and the private sector to improve service accessibility and promote inclusive practices across the retail sector.
MOCI added that the program supports the development of a more accessible commercial environment by encouraging businesses to provide services that meet the needs of all members of the community.
