Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) has become the first bank globally to adopt Visa’s Threat Intelligence Platform (VTIP), strengthening its fraud prevention and cybersecurity capabilities as financial institutions face increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.

The implementation marks the early deployment of Visa’s new platform, with ADIB also working alongside Visa to co-design its initial use cases and operational framework.

The collaboration enhances digital resilience by integrating payment fraud intelligence with cyber threat intelligence, enabling earlier detection of risks and faster response to potential attacks.

The move builds on the long-standing partnership between Visa and ADIB to strengthen cybersecurity across the financial sector and supports the bank’s strategy of investing in technologies that improve customer protection and secure digital banking services.

Visa stated that cyber threats are becoming more frequent and complex, with many fraudulent financial transactions linked to compromised credentials, data breaches, and system exploitation.

The Visa Threat Intelligence Platform combines cyber intelligence with payment intelligence to help financial institutions identify emerging threats, accelerate incident response, and prevent fraud before financial losses occur.

The platform has been integrated into ADIB’s fraud prevention framework, providing the bank’s cybersecurity, fraud, and risk teams with real-time visibility into emerging threats through contextual intelligence tailored to the financial services sector.

The integration supports faster risk identification, more effective investigations, and improved protection against evolving cyber and fraud risks.

“ADIB’s early adoption of the Visa Threat Intelligence Platform reflects our commitment to innovating and delivering a secure and trusted banking experience for our customers. By strengthening our ability to identify payment risks earlier and respond more effectively, we are enhancing customer protection while supporting a resilient and seamless digital banking journey.”

Visa stated that the Threat Intelligence Platform is based on the cybersecurity capabilities it uses to protect its own global payments network. According to the company, it blocks around 90 million cyberattacks and 11 million phishing emails each month across more than 200 countries.

Salima Gutieva, Visa’s Vice President and Country Manager for the UAE, remarked that, “Visa’s Threat Intelligence Platform brings added depth to how we support financial institutions in the UAE and helps them strengthen resilience, protect customers, and stay ahead of emerging risks. Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank’s early adoption highlights the strong collaboration needed to advance the UAE’s vision for a secure and inclusive payments ecosystem.”

Walter Lironi, Senior Vice President and Head of Value-Added Services for Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (CEMEA) at Visa, added that the platform provides financial institutions with actionable intelligence by combining cyber and payments data, helping reduce fraud risks through earlier threat detection.
