Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in the mining and mineral resources sector, expanding bilateral collaboration in exploration, investment, technology, and industry development.
The agreement was signed by HE Bandar Alkhorayef, Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources of Saudi Arabia, and HE Yersayin Nagaspayev, Minister of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan, during Alkhorayef’s official visit to Kazakhstan.
The MoU reflects the commitment of both countries to enhancing cooperation in a sector that is increasingly important to economic diversification, industrial development, and supply chain resilience.
Under the agreement, Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan will cooperate in the exchange of expertise and knowledge related to mineral exploration, including the adoption of advanced exploration technologies and industry best practices.
The framework also seeks to facilitate joint mining investments and create opportunities for companies from both countries to expand their presence in each other’s markets.
The MoU outlines several areas of collaboration across the mining value chain. These include mineral exploration, geological studies, technical knowledge exchange, and initiatives aimed at encouraging investment in mining projects.
The agreement also supports the development of partnerships between Saudi and Kazakh companies operating in the sector, with the objective of increasing private-sector participation and fostering long-term cooperation.
In addition, the two countries will work together on innovation and the application of modern mining technologies.
The cooperation is expected to support efforts to improve operational efficiency, enhance exploration capabilities, and contribute to the development of mining value chains.
With the utilization of their respective expertise and resources, both sides aim to strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of their mining industries.
The agreement forms part of Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to expand international partnerships in the mining and minerals sector and strengthen cooperation with countries that possess significant mineral resources and mining potential.
The Kingdom has identified mining as one of the key pillars of its industrial and economic diversification agenda under Saudi Vision 2030.
Through partnerships with international stakeholders, Saudi Arabia is seeking to attract investment, promote technology transfer, and support the development of a globally competitive mining sector.
