Uber has announced that its ride hailing service will now be available in Sharjah.

The launch would mean that the UberSelect app, which is already available in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, will now be available in Sharjah and is a part of the firm’s expansion plans in the UAE.

The US based company offers vehicles for hire, food delivery, package delivery, couriers, and freight transportation services in numerous countries across the world.

Uber informed that social distancing measures, frequent sanitization and usage of face masks will continue to be strictly followed in the new location too.

Drivers will also be required to provide customers who use the app with a hand sanitizer. Passengers are mandated to sit in the back of the vehicle only and not exceed the maximum number of riders advised at a time.

Furthermore, to ensure safety, Uber provides the option to passengers to cancel a trip if the driver is not wearing a mask.

This is in addition to the normal security features on the app, including GPS monitoring, two-way accountability, driver screening, real-time ID verification, trusted contacts, trip anonymization and emergency integration that were implemented as Uber seeks to give safety the utmost importance.

“COVID-19 has presented unprecedented challenges, but as we work towards accelerating recovery we’re focusing on our strengths – offering safe, reliable and affordable mobility solutions and investing in securing the livelihoods of drivers by creating additional earning opportunities,” said Rifad Mahasneh, Uber’s general manager for the GCC and Levant.

The service has been operating since 2013 in Dubai, and was relaunched two years ago in Abu Dhabi.

Uber is a major contributor to the economy and a significant investor in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region. It offers flexible economic opportunities to those interested in being a part of the service.

The Sharjah launch is yet another step in its journey to offer greater accessibility and flexible earning opportunities, creating an ecosystem where everyone can get around safely and easily.
