The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has unveiled the addition of three new shipping services operated by global shipping giant Maersk at both Jeddah Islamic Port and King Abdullah Port.
This strategic move is set to reinforce Saudi Arabia’s position as a pivotal maritime trade hub, bolstering the Kingdom’s competitiveness on both regional and global trade fronts.
The newly introduced services will establish vital connections between Jeddah Islamic Port and four key regional and international ports: Nhava Sheva and Mundra in India, Salalah in Oman, and King Abdullah Port. The routes will loop back to Jeddah Islamic Port, enhancing connectivity across these major trade hubs.
With a total handling capacity of up to 14,400 TEUs, these services are expected to significantly boost cargo throughput and facilitate smoother trade operations, further solidifying the Kingdom’s strategic maritime position.
This move is a key component of Mawani’s ongoing efforts to enhance Saudi Arabia’s standing in global performance indicators. It aims to support international trade, boost national exports, and contribute to the country’s broader vision of becoming a leading global logistics hub.
According to the reports, the initiative aligns with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which seeks to position Saudi Arabia as a central maritime and trade gateway, linking Asia, Africa, and Europe. By strengthening connectivity and expanding capacity, Mawani continues to drive the Kingdom’s ambition of becoming a premier logistics hub bridging three continents.
Jeddah Islamic Port features 62 multi-purpose berths, a logistics services zone for storage and re-export, a direct trucking system to and from the port, and several specialized terminals and advanced infrastructure, including two container terminals and multiple marine service berths, with a total capacity of up to 130 million tons.
