The Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Thailand has explored avenues to strengthen cooperation in tourism promotion, focusing on sustainable practices, high-value tourism and digital innovation, during an official visit by Omani Minister of Heritage and Tourism Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said Al Busaidi.

Talks were held in Thailand with Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, where both sides reviewed best practices in managing tourist destinations, developing integrated tourism experiences and enhancing the quality of tourism products.

The Omani delegation was briefed on Thailand’s experience in attracting international markets, implementing high-value tourism models, leveraging digital technologies and promoting sustainability across tourism activities.

Both sides emphasized the importance of partnerships among tourism stakeholders and agreed to explore cooperation in sustainable tourism, community-based tourism and tourism crisis management. They also highlighted the need to strengthen private sector collaboration, particularly among travel and tourism companies, to boost the global presence of Omani and Thai destinations.

The visit aligns with Oman’s broader efforts to engage with international expertise and identify opportunities to develop its tourism sector in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

On the sidelines, Sayyid Ibrahim attended the opening of the World Conference on Sustainable Tourism in Phuket, organized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. The event brought together global decision-makers, experts and tourism leaders.

Discussions at the conference focused on the future of sustainable tourism, hospitality development, urban and community resilience and managing visitor flows to balance tourism growth with resource conservation.

The minister also held bilateral meetings with international officials and experts, covering sustainability standards, hotel efficiency improvements and smart tourism solutions. He reviewed innovative projects that promote sustainable tourism models, modern technologies and the role of local communities as key contributors to sector development.

Oman’s participation underscores its commitment to adopting global best practices in tourism sustainability, enhancing competitiveness and safeguarding natural and cultural resources for future generations.
