Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), the fourth largest chemical company in the world, has secured a Platinum Medal from EcoVadis, a leader in third-party evaluations of business sustainability performance.

The Platinum award is the highest recognition a company could receive for its sustainability efforts and it positions SABIC in the top one percent of companies assessed across the globe.

“This acknowledgment comes at a critical time when stakeholders across our global value chain are expecting the companies that they work with to care for their people, their communities and our planet. With a presence in over 60 countries, we have a responsibility to ensure that our company creates lasting value. This rating is a testament to our ongoing efforts to continuously improve our practices to meet the sustainability expectations of all of our stakeholders.”

Last year, SABIC received a Platinum medal for sustainability from EcoVadis. In 2019, EcoVadis placed SABIC in the top 1 percent best performers in the industrial category ‘Basic Chemicals, Fertilizers, Plastics & Synthetic Rubber Companies.’

EcoVadis has created a global network of more than 75,000 rated companies. The organization’s sustainability scorecards offer a detailed insight into environmental, social, and ethical risks across more than 200 purchasing categories and over 160 countries. The objective of the EcoVadis assessment is to evaluate the quality of a company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) management system.

Under the assessment, EcoVadis focuses on four different areas including environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement, in the management layers of policies, actions, and reporting on results.
