Saudi Arabia and Syria have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in preventing and combating corruption and to enhance collaboration between their respective oversight institutions.

The agreement was signed at the headquarters of Saudi Arabia’s anti-corruption authority, the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha), in Makkah.

The Kingdom was represented by Nazaha President Mazin Al-Kahmous, while the Syrian Arab Republic was represented by Eng. Amer Al-Ali, Chairman of the Central Commission for Control and Inspection.

The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation in preventing and combating corruption, with a particular focus on addressing cross-border corruption crimes.

It also provides for the exchange of information, expertise, and best practices between the two oversight institutions, reflecting a shared commitment to promoting integrity and accountability in public administration.

A key objective of the agreement is to strengthen the institutional capacities of both organizations through knowledge-sharing initiatives and enhanced coordination.

Officials from both sides emphasized the importance of international cooperation in tackling corruption-related challenges that increasingly transcend national borders.

During the signing ceremony, representatives discussed avenues for expanding collaboration in protecting integrity, enhancing transparency, and reinforcing anti-corruption mechanisms. The discussions also highlighted the role of effective oversight institutions in supporting good governance and sustainable development.

Saudi officials presented an overview of the Kingdom’s anti-corruption efforts, including measures and practices implemented by Nazaha to promote transparency, safeguard public resources, and uphold integrity across government institutions.

The Syrian delegation, in turn, reviewed its initiatives and experiences in strengthening oversight and accountability frameworks.

The agreement underscores the growing importance of regional and international partnerships in combating corruption and fostering transparent governance.

By formalizing cooperation between their respective oversight bodies, Saudi Arabia and Syria aim to build stronger institutional capabilities, improve information exchange, and contribute to a more effective and coordinated approach to preventing corruption and protecting public trust.
