Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan have discussed expanding cooperation in the industrial and mining sectors, with a focus on strategic minerals, investment partnerships and private-sector collaboration, during a series of meetings held in Astana.

Saudi Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Alkhorayef met with Kazakhstan’s Minister of Industry and Construction Yersayin Nagaspayev to explore opportunities for strengthening bilateral cooperation in industry, mining and investment.

The discussions centered on expanding cooperation in the mining and mineral resources sector, including investment opportunities in strategic minerals, strengthening partnerships between private-sector companies in both countries, and supporting collaboration across mining value chains and related industries.

Focus on strategic minerals and industrial development

The two sides also discussed exchanging expertise, knowledge and advanced technologies to support the development and competitiveness of the mining sector.

In addition, the ministers reviewed opportunities to enhance industrial cooperation across several promising sectors, develop investment partnerships, and share expertise in manufacturing and processing industries.

The talks further examined ways to leverage the two countries’ experience in developing industries based on natural resources and increasing their added value, supporting the industrial and mining development goals of both nations. Officials said the cooperation could open new avenues for economic partnerships between Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan.

Meetings held with major Kazakh mining firms

Separately, Alkhorayef held a series of bilateral meetings in Astana with executives from several leading Kazakh mining and metals companies, in the presence of Vice Minister for Mining Affairs Eng. Khalid Almudaifer.

The meetings included representatives from Tau-Ken Samruk National Mining Company, KAZ Minerals and Kazatomprom.

Discussions focused on opportunities for cooperation in the mining sector, particularly in strategic minerals and rare earth elements. The talks also covered mineral exploration, geological surveying and sustainable mining practices.

International mining partnerships

The meetings form part of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to strengthen international partnerships and attract high-quality investments into its mining and minerals sector, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

The Kingdom has identified mining as a key pillar of its economic diversification strategy and continues to pursue partnerships aimed at developing mineral resources, expanding value-added industries and enhancing the sector’s global competitiveness.
