UAE’s Tawazun, Yahsat join to establish satellite technology company

UAE’s Tawazun Economic Council (Tawazun) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the region’s flagship satellite services operator, Yahsat, to establish a new company to develop “critical in-country capabilities” for advanced satellite communications.

According to the MoU, the new company will develop technologies and make products in the three core streams, such as Aeronautical Satcom Technologies, Satellite Modem Technologies, and Enablement of other Satcom Products and Technologies. The first project includes creating a multi-platform satellite modem for government and defense sectors in the UAE and globally.

As per the company statement, Yahsat will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the new company’s products fulfill the requirements of its government clients with a differentiated and targeted product strategy, allowing the UAE government and other local and international users to address major technology developments.

Further, it will source key product development capabilities from leading solution providers and manufacturers to lay the groundwork for local production lines and integrated supply chain management.
