The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) has expanded the SEHHI program to improve access to healthy food options across workplaces in Abu Dhabi, introducing new technical guidelines aimed at promoting better nutrition habits.

The expansion marks a shift toward embedding preventive healthcare into daily life by targeting workplace environments, where people spend a significant portion of their time. The initiative focuses on transforming these settings to make healthier choices more accessible and convenient without requiring additional effort from individuals.

The new workplace guideline under the SEHHI program provides a structured and practical framework for both government and private sector entities, enabling them to implement health-focused strategies by designing environments that support healthier behaviors and improve access to nutritious options.

The guideline sets out key standards, including the mandatory display of calorie information at food touchpoints and ensuring that at least 30 percent of menu items comply with SEHHI nutritional criteria. It also addresses the organization of meals, snacks, beverages and vending machine offerings to enhance the visibility and availability of healthier choices.

In addition, the framework defines clear roles and responsibilities for all stakeholders, including employers and food vendors, to ensure consistent and measurable implementation.

This includes registration processes, the appointment of focal points, approval of food items, staff training, delivery of awareness programs, and ongoing monitoring and evaluation.

“Workplaces are not merely spaces for productivity; they are environments where daily habits are shaped. By expanding the SEHHI program, we are working to make the healthy choices the easier choice by designing environments that support this shift. Today, we are witnessing a practical transition toward preventive health, by embedding it into the details of daily life that make a real difference in the health of our community.”

The guideline applies to all workplaces in Abu Dhabi that provide food and beverages, including cafeterias, catering services, vending machines, kiosks and coffee stations. Employers are encouraged to begin registration and implementation through the official SEHHI program channels.
