The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) has achieved LEED Platinum Certification under the v4.1 Operations and Maintenance (O+M) rating system, the highest level of certification within the globally recognized Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program.

The certification reflects ADPHC’s efforts to integrate sustainability practices into its operational framework while maintaining a focus on public health and resource efficiency.

The achievement highlights the Centre’s commitment to environmental responsibility and its alignment with the UAE’s sustainability objectives.

The LEED certification process involved a comprehensive assessment of the Centre’s building operations and environmental performance.

As part of the process, ADPHC conducted an energy audit to evaluate existing systems and identify opportunities to improve efficiency across its facilities.

Based on the findings, the Centre implemented a series of operational and infrastructure improvements. These included upgrades to heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems, improvements in lighting efficiency, and enhancements to waste management practices.

ADPHC also adopted certified sustainable products, implemented green cleaning procedures, and introduced measures aimed at improving indoor air quality for employees and visitors.

According to the Centre, these initiatives resulted in measurable reductions in resource consumption and improved environmental performance.

Energy use per person decreased by 36 percent, while water consumption was reduced by 42 percent. Recycling rates reached 44 percent, contributing to the Centre’s overall performance under the LEED rating framework.

“We are proud to have achieved the LEED Platinum certification, the highest level of recognition under the globally recognized program. This achievement reflects our commitment to protecting both environmental and human health. By embedding environmental sustainability within our operations, we are contributing to the UAE’s Net Zero ambitions and Abu Dhabi’s long-term vision for a more sustainable and resilient future.”

ADPHC has continued to implement sustainability initiatives across its operations recently. In 2023, the Centre published its first Sustainability Report, which outlined progress in areas such as carbon reduction, waste minimization, and resource efficiency.

The LEED Platinum certification forms part of ADPHC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen environmental performance and support sustainable operational practices.

The Centre stated that environmental considerations remain an important component of its public health approach, with a focus on promoting efficient resource use, reducing environmental impact, and contributing to long-term sustainability goals in Abu Dhabi and the UAE.
