The Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) has concluded its ‘Little Economist’ program, aimed at strengthening economic awareness and financial skills among children and youth as part of efforts to prepare a future-ready generation equipped to meet evolving economic challenges.
The program focused on building participants’ understanding of financial planning, budgeting, entrepreneurship, and institutional work through practical learning and interactive activities.
Hamad Ali Abdalla Al Mahmoud, SEDD Chairman and Member of the Executive Council, honored participants at the closing ceremony and reviewed their projects.
He commented that the Little Economist program reflects Sharjah’s vision of nurturing young talent and developing children’s skills in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
Little Economist combines financial education with practical learning
SEDD stated that the Little Economist initiative was designed to develop participants’ financial planning and budgeting skills while introducing them to the Department’s working environment to deepen their understanding of institutional operations.
The program also introduced fundamental concepts of economics and entrepreneurship while helping participants strengthen communication, presentation, and teamwork skills to support the development of future leaders.
Interactive workshops and practical activities enabled participants to gain hands-on experience and learn about the roles of various departments in supporting the emirate’s business environment and economic development.
‘Merchants’ Lane’ showcases participants’ projects
The Little Economist program concluded with a mini-market titled ‘Merchants’ Lane,’ where participants presented projects they had developed throughout the initiative.
The projects were evaluated based on innovation, presentation, and teamwork, allowing participants to apply the knowledge they had acquired while encouraging healthy competition and reinforcing economic concepts through practical application.
Focus on investing in future generations
SEDD noted that the Little Economist initiative reflects its commitment to investing in human capital by enhancing financial and economic awareness among young people, supporting Sharjah’s vision of building a sustainable, knowledge-based, and innovation-driven economy.
The Department also commended the participants’ level of engagement and reaffirmed its commitment to launching initiatives that help develop capable and future-ready generations.
