SalamAir has launched its first scheduled direct flights between Muscat and Medan, Indonesia, adding its first destination in the country to its growing Southeast Asia network.
The airline held an official ceremony at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Muscat ahead of the inaugural flight.
The event was attended by senior government officials, representatives from the aviation and tourism sectors, members of the diplomatic corps, and media representatives from both countries.
The new route will operate twice a week using Airbus A320neo aircraft. SalamAir said that the service will offer passengers a direct and affordable travel option between Muscat and Medan.
The new service will strengthen economic, tourism, and cultural ties between Oman and Indonesia. It will also provide a direct air link between the two countries, improving travel convenience for both business and leisure passengers.
The flights are expected to support the growing demand for Umrah travel. Passengers will be able to connect through Muscat to Jeddah and Medina using SalamAir’s network.
The route is also expected to support tourism and facilitate trade between Oman and Indonesia by improving access for travelers and businesses.
Indonesia remains one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing aviation and tourism markets. Medan serves as the commercial and cultural center of North Sumatra. The city is also the main gateway to Lake Toba, one of the world’s largest volcanic lakes and a UNESCO Global Geopark. The destination has become increasingly popular among travelers from Oman and other GCC countries.

Adrian Hamilton-Mans, Chief Executive Officer of SalamAir, said that the launch of scheduled flights to Indonesia marks an important step in the airline’s international expansion.
Hamilton-Mans noted that Indonesia is a strategic market with growing tourism, trade, and cultural links with Oman. He added that the new route is expected to support tourism, facilitate trade, and strengthen bilateral relations.
Hido Budi Arzo, Minister Plenipotentiary and Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Muscat, remarked that the launch of direct flights marks an important milestone in relations between Indonesia and Oman.
Arzo added that improved air connectivity would support tourism, trade, investment, and cultural exchange while bringing the people of both countries closer together. The Medan service forms part of SalamAir’s strategy to expand its international network.
The airline currently serves more than 40 destinations across the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Europe. It also continues to expand its fleet of modern Airbus aircraft.
