Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) has signed a series of major project contracts worth more than $604 million (QR 2.2 billion) to expand and enhance the electricity network in Qatar’s western region, strengthening grid capacity and supporting renewable energy integration.
The contracts were awarded to several qualified local and international companies, including Voltage Engineering LTD, the Best & Betas Consortium, Larsen & Toubro, and LS Cable. The projects form part of KAHRAMAA’s ongoing infrastructure expansion strategy.
The new projects are aligned with KAHRAMAA’s strategic initiatives to connect the Dukhan Solar Power Project to the national electricity grid in the western region.
The scope includes engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) works covering the development and upgrade of substations, as well as the installation of underground cables and overhead transmission lines.
KAHRAMAA stated that the projects will enhance the country’s ability to integrate renewable energy into the national grid, improve system flexibility, and increase capacity to absorb rising solar power generation. The upgrades are also expected to improve overall network performance and operational stability.
The total investment exceeding $604 million (QR 2.2 billion) reflects the scale of infrastructure development aimed at strengthening long-term energy security and ensuring reliable electricity supply across Qatar.
