The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has strengthened its global maritime connectivity by welcoming the Mediterranean Shipping Company’s (MSC) Middle East Express service.
This new addition, which links Europe to the Red Sea, will now connect Jeddah Islamic Port and King Abdullah Port in Rabigh, further enhancing Saudi Arabia’s trade links and supporting national economic growth in collaboration with major international shipping lines.
The service links Jeddah Islamic Port to several global ports, including Gdańsk, Bremerhaven, Antwerp, València, Barcelona, and Gioia Tauro, with a capacity of up to 16,000 standard containers. It will also be connected via land transport from King Abdullah Port to King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, with onward distribution to Arabian Gulf countries via feeder ships.
This initiative is a key step in enhancing supply chain integration and regional logistical connectivity, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s position as a central player in global trade.
By adding MSC’s Middle East Express service, Mawani aligns with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to transform the Kingdom into a global logistics hub linking Asia, Africa, and Europe.
This strategic move not only supports the flow of goods between key international markets but also strengthens the Kingdom’s infrastructure, boosting its competitiveness in the global logistics and shipping industries, as per the reports.
Recently, Mawani launched a new shipping service by CMA CGM at Jeddah Islamic Port, a move aimed at strengthening Saudi Arabia’s maritime links with major global markets and enhancing the flow of exports and imports. The newly introduced Ocean Rise service establishes direct connections between Jeddah Islamic Port and several key international ports across Asia and Europe.
