The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has launched a new shipping service by CMA CGM at Jeddah Islamic Port, a move aimed at strengthening Saudi Arabia’s maritime links with major global markets and enhancing the flow of exports and imports.
The newly introduced Ocean Rise service establishes direct connections between Jeddah Islamic Port and several key international ports across Asia and Europe. These include Kobe, Nagoya, and Yokohama in Japan; Xiamen, Yantian, and Nansha in China; as well as Rotterdam in the Netherlands, Hamburg in Germany, and Southampton in the United Kingdom.
The Ocean Rise service, with a handling capacity of up to 3,001 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), is designed to improve shipping efficiency and expand logistics capabilities. Officials say it aligns with Saudi Arabia’s National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which seeks to position the Kingdom as a central global logistics hub linking Asia, Europe, and Africa.
Industry stakeholders expect the addition of Ocean Rise service to enhance supply chain reliability and reduce transit times for cargo moving between the Kingdom and major international trade centers.
Jeddah Islamic Port continues to play a pivotal role in regional and international trade. The port features 62 multi-purpose berths and a total handling capacity of approximately 130 million tons. Its infrastructure includes advanced container terminals, a dedicated logistics zone for bonded and re-export cargo, and a direct trucking system designed to streamline cargo movement and improve operational efficiency.
The expansion with the Ocean Rise service underscores ongoing efforts by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) to attract leading global shipping lines, enhance port competitiveness, and reinforce Saudi Arabia’s position as a key player in the international maritime sector while supporting long-term economic diversification goals.
