Major General Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulwahab Al Khalifa, Director General of Traffic in the Kingdom of Bahrain, has launched a new initiative to equip motorcycles escorting official convoys with an electronic plates system, aimed at enhancing traffic safety and regulating road use.
The initiative introduces advanced electronic plates on motorcycles accompanying official convoys to guide motorists on appropriate driving behavior when convoys pass. The system is designed to improve traffic flow, increase awareness among drivers, and reduce potential risks on the road.
Major General Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulwahab Al Khalifa said that public safety remains fundamental to community stability, stressing that traffic safety is a key component in protecting all road users.
He noted that the initiative represents a qualitative step forward in promoting safe driving practices, as the electronic plates will display real-time guidance for motorists, helping them respond appropriately to convoy movements and adhere to traffic regulations.
The Director General of Traffic highlighted the importance of motorists complying with traffic instructions and responding positively to the guidance displayed on the electronic plates, in accordance with the requirements of each situation. He affirmed that traffic safety is a shared responsibility among all road users, built on awareness and cooperation, and essential to creating a safe road environment for society.
He also expressed appreciation to the teams from the Ministry of Interior and the University of Bahrain for their role in implementing the initiative. He commended their constructive collaboration, which contributed to the development and execution of the project with the required standards to achieve its objectives.
The Director General further emphasized the importance of continued institutional partnerships to support initiatives that enhance quality of life and strengthen community safety.
