Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), has launched the Gulf Legislation Platform at the headquarters of the GCC General Secretariat, marking a new step toward enhancing legislative integration among GCC member states.
The Gulf Legislation Platform is one of the initiatives aimed at advancing legislative co-ordination across the GCC by enabling users to review unified Gulf legislation issued within the framework of joint Gulf action. It also serves as a unified electronic reference designed to support legislative and legal work throughout the Council states.
During the launch, Albudaiwi commended the efforts of those responsible for the initiative, which was implemented in accordance with a decision by the Standing Committee of Officials of Legislation Departments in the GCC States during its 19th meeting. The committee approved the General Secretariat’s proposal to establish the specialized platform to facilitate access to unified Gulf and national legislation.
Gulf Legislation Platform to streamline access
The Gulf Legislation Platform offers advanced search capabilities that allow government and legal entities in member states, as well as specialists, researchers and individuals interested in legislative affairs, to access and review unified Gulf legislation and national laws efficiently. The initiative is expected to enhance the exchange of legal expertise and support legislative co-ordination and integration among GCC countries.
According to the General Secretariat, the Gulf Legislation Platform currently contains more than 24,700 legal and legislative documents. The platform has been developed with a flexible and user-friendly design, enabling beneficiaries to quickly access required legislative information and documents.
The first phase of the project covers the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Sultanate of Oman. The General Secretariat said work is continuing to complete integration with the remaining GCC member states in upcoming phases, with the aim of expanding the platform’s scope and supporting the development of the joint Gulf legislative framework while serving researchers, specialists and decision-makers across the GCC.
