The Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) have formalized a strategic partnership to strengthen food security and address the growing impacts of climate change across the Islamic world.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed at ICESCO’s headquarters by Director-General Salem bin Mohammed Al Malik and AOAD Director-General Ibrahim El Dukheri.

Focus on innovation-driven agriculture

The agreement underscores a shared commitment to leveraging science, technology, and innovation to modernize agricultural systems.

Both organizations will work jointly to promote advanced solutions, including smart farming techniques, digital tools, and data-driven approaches, aimed at improving productivity while ensuring environmental sustainability.

Central to the partnership is the integration of emerging technologies such as space-based applications and artificial intelligence to enhance agricultural planning, monitor environmental changes, and optimize resource utilization.

Addressing climate and resource pressures

Salem bin Mohammed Al Malik emphasized the urgency of coordinated action in the face of accelerating climate change. Al Malik noted that rising environmental challenges demand stronger partnerships to mitigate their economic and social consequences, particularly in vulnerable regions.

He highlighted the critical importance of improving water resource management and preserving natural ecosystems, stressing that sustainable practices are essential to safeguarding long-term food security.

Al Malik also pointed to the expanding role of artificial intelligence not only in agriculture but also in protecting cultural heritage, indicating ICESCO’s broader commitment to integrating innovation across multiple sectors.

Ibrahim El Dukheri commended ICESCO’s initiatives in environmental protection and the adoption of smart agriculture practices. El Dukheri reaffirmed AOAD’s readiness to share technical expertise and collaborate on deploying modern technologies that support climate adaptation and resilience.

The MoU outlines a framework for joint programs covering a wide spectrum of priority areas, including food security systems, climate resilience strategies, water management solutions, and professional capacity building for agricultural stakeholders.

The partnership reflects a broader effort to enhance regional cooperation among member states by aligning resources and expertise.
