Saudi Arabia has strengthened its housing and construction cooperation with China on the first day of an official visit by Majed Al-Hogail, signing six agreements and memoranda of understanding and awarding major housing projects worth over $506.7 million (SAR 1.9 billion).

The minister oversaw the signing between Saudi and Chinese entities and companies, alongside the launch of new housing developments in Riyadh and Dammam. The initiatives are part of broader efforts to strengthen Saudi-Chinese collaboration in delivery, construction innovation, and urban development.

6 deals target construction technology, financing, workforce development

The six agreements and memoranda of understanding focus on expanding investment in the construction sector and accelerating the localization of modern building technologies. They also cover the transfer of technical expertise, development of human capital, and strengthening public-private partnerships.

Additional areas include engineering design, project financing solutions, feasibility studies, and pricing services. Officials said these measures are expected to improve project execution efficiency, speed up delivery timelines, and enhance the overall quality of the targeted developments.

Riyadh and Dammam housing projects awarded to Chinese firms

During the visit, the Al-Ruba residential project in Riyadh was awarded to CACC. The development includes 2,010 units with a total value of approximately $233.36 million (SAR 875 million).

In Dammam, the Al-Rasha Al-Faisaliah project was awarded to China State Corporation. The project comprises 2,426 housing units valued at about $282.7 million (SAR 1.06 billion).

Progress toward 100,000-unit Saudi-Chinese partnership

The visit also highlighted progress on a strategic partnership goal to deliver 100,000 units through Chinese companies by 2030.

According to project updates, the 2025 target of 18,000 housing units has already been achieved through signed contracts. In 2026, newly signed agreements exceeded 19,000 additional units, bringing the total contracted housing pipeline to more than 37,000 units.

Saudi-Chinese Contractors Forum launched to expand cooperation

The first day of the visit also saw the launch of the Saudi-Chinese Contractors Forum, organized by the Saudi Contractors Authority. The forum aims to strengthen cooperation between contracting firms in both countries and expand joint opportunities in housing, infrastructure, and urban development projects.
