The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has added the new MEDEX shipping service by CMA CGM, a French shipping and logistics company, to Jeddah Islamic Port.

The addition of MEDEX shipping service is to enhance the Jeddah Islamic Port’s competitive advantage, facilitating global trade, expanding business opportunities, and supporting national exports.

The MEDEX shipping service will connect Jeddah Islamic Port with 12 key regional and international ports, including Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali (UAE), Karachi (Pakistan), Mundra and Nhava Sheva (India), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Piraeus and Malta (Greece), Genoa (Italy), Marseille Fos (France), and Barcelona and Valencia (Spain), with a handling capacity of up to 10,000 TEUs.

This initiative aligns with Mawani’s efforts to improve the Kingdom’s ranking in global performance indices and boost the operational efficiency of Jeddah Islamic Port, thereby enhancing the flow of national exports and imports. It also supports the goals of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to position Saudi Arabia as a global logistics hub and a key connector of three continents.

Jeddah Islamic Port currently features 62 multi-purpose berths, a logistics zone for storage and re-export, multiple specialized terminals, two general cargo terminals, two ship repair docks, and various marine service berths, with a total handling capacity of 130 million tons.

Last month, Mawani added the Red Sea to India (RESIN) shipping service at Jeddah Islamic Port, enhancing maritime connectivity with four key regional and international ports, this service supports the Kingdom’s broader objectives under Vision 2030, particularly in expanding non-oil exports and increasing the efficiency of its logistics sector.
